Step 1: Create a Life Plan

02/01/2007 – I started reading this today. The main concept is that you must figure out what you would like your life to be like, then create your business in such a way that will help you get there. To accomplish that you must create your life plan.

In order to create your life plan you should follow some steps. Write down and be really sincere, as this part is very important in identifying what your business will look like.

What is your current status? Answer the following questions;

  1. Quality rating of your life on a scale of 1 through 100, with 100 being the best possible life
  2. Realities of your life, including responsibilities, funds available to start a business, expenses
  3. Things that make you happy
  4. Things that make you unhappy

What would your ideal life be like? Don’t be shy here…think grand! Think of anything that you believe would make your life perfect. Consider your family, relationship, free time, hobbies, etc.

Things you love. List the things you love to do, no matter where…it could be things you enjoy doing at home, school, etc…

What are your skills? It is important to think carefully about your strengths. What are the things you do well that can help you achieve the life you want?  And don’t only consider the skills obtained through work. Anything you somehow learned counts – even if you only consider it a hobbie! We never know where you can apply what you know.

What are the things you have experience in? You must list your accomplishments in personal and professional life. Attention to the successes you had that could be applied towards a business.

What is your ideal work style? This part should be understood as what makes you happy…for instance, do you want to work full time, part time, from home? Do you like dealing with people or would you rather work behind the scenes?? I think this part is essential to the understanding of how you will run your business.
